 Video Walls 

Hi-resolution, scalable displays for data, graphics and video across monitors, projectors or flat panel displays.

As the name suggests, Video walls are large video display units that are required to be deployed in places where:

1. A single image has to be viewed by a very large audience
   OR
2. Multiple data groups have to be displayed on a single screen, again to be observed by a large group of people

The display resolution that is needed in these installations generally exceeds the resolution that is achievable by projection systems.

The size of a video wall is generally measured in feet and it is quite common to have video walls of the size of 20’ x 5’, 40’ x 10’ etc. The coverage of such large areas cannot be easily managed by a single display unit and therefore, the entire display is constructed by incorporating many individual display units. Each of these display units is capable of independently handle the display of a single screen. At times when it is necessary to display one big picture, the input is fed to a specialized processor that segments the picture and sends a part of the picture to each unit comprising the video wall. Likewise, when multiple data groups are to be displayed, all the inputs are fed to the processor that sends the appropriate picture to the relevant display unit.

As mentioned before each individual display unit is independent. These can be CRT’s, Plasma screens, LCD screens and compact rare projection units.

Video walls of the yesteryears were constructed using CRT monitors that had a serious drawback: the large picture would be fragmented by an array of lines, bordering each display unit. Video walls of the current day incorporate no borders and the processors also incorporate a smoothing technology that manages to significantly minimize the gaps. Seen from a distance of approximately 10’ or over, the 0.5 mm gaps are practically invisible.
